Just as there are many types of loss, there are many ways to grieve. There is no “right way” or “wrong way”; each person experiences grief in his or her own way and at their own rate.

Grief counselling can be beneficial to those who have experienced losses such as the death of a loved one, job loss, reproductive loss, separation, divorce, loss of one’s health, physical impairment, life changes and transitions, the launching of children and many other ways.

Some losses can be more traumatic than others. Some losses can trigger a host of troublesome and sometimes debilitating symptoms such as depression, sadness, anxiety, helplessness, hopelessness, fear, confusion, numbness, loneliness, guilt and anger. Additionally, one may experience frequent crying, appetite change, sleep disturbances, social withdrawal, confusion, and an inability to concentrate.

You may be living each day with emotional pain, finding yourself dwelling in the past or worrying about the future. You may feel frozen, unable to move forward. You may assume that you have to go through this alone.

There are times in each person’s life when one needs someone to listen, interpret, reflect and help navigate life’s difficult passages. Arlene offers client-centered clinical grief counselling, understanding that everyone has unique circumstances that has brought her or him to the counselling process. As such, she tailors specific therapeutic strategies to meet each individual’s unique needs.

With compassion, caring, and skill, Arlene can assist you in understanding the spectrum of emotions, behaviours and thoughts that you are experiencing, creating a safe and supportive environment in which healing can occur.
